Understanding the Science Medium
The science medium is a term which I use to represent the environment of science that surrounds us in our culture and that acts as a lens through which we, and our culture and society in general, make interpretations of the world and what’s happening in it.
The idea of the science medium comes out of a concept from the field of Media Ecology which studies media environments. Technologies, communication forms, techniques, and modes of information all have an impact and play a major role in the forming and development of human affairs. Media Ecology is an investigation in to how all media of communication affect human perception, understanding, feeling and value.
This podcast looks at the environment of science as a communication media and investigates how science has molded our perceptions about the world, as well as the positive and negative consequences humanity has experienced as a result. This is the third podcast in a series of topics that impact human perception. The first being, Coping with Information Glut, and the second, The Focusing Illusion.
