Fake News and Truth
What is Fake News? What is truth? In this podcast, we look at something that has become a very prominent topic in society, the idea of fake news. Our President accuses the media of it. Major media companies are working to deal with it, but what really is it and how does it relate to the truth? One area of concern when we talk about any type of “fact” is how people interpret those facts and what types of biases are in those interpretations. The ancient Sophists were accused of using rhetorical techniques to persuade audiences regardless of the facts. It is becoming increasingly important that we all learn how better to understand facts, interpretation and persuasion so we can have a better grasp of what is happening in the world around us.
